Mount Kenya Trekking Itinerary
Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa. Long overshadowed by Kilimanjaro, trekkers are starting to take notice of this beautiful glacial peak. An ancient dormant volcano, its flanks have been shaped and moulded to dramatic affect by glaciation. Mount Kenya plays host to dense bamboo and rainforest on its lower slopes and rare Afro-Alpine moorland and plant-life at higher elevations. Alongside the climbers’ twin peaks of Batian (5199m) and Nelion (5,188m) lies the no less dramatic trekkers peak at Lenana (4,985m). The trek up Mount Kenya demands a degree of fitness and altitude smarts, but it rewards all the way to the peak.
8 Days Chogoria Route
Trek beautiful UNESCO World Heritage listed Mount Kenya in 5 days from Nairobi. This route offers the optimum balance of good acclimatization and scenery. The trail follows the stunning Sirimon route up through dramatic glacial valleys and descends down the pretty Naromoru trail – the most direct traverse on the mountain. We break the tough ascent from Old Moses to Shiptons Camp with a night at Likki North Camp (3990m).
5 Days Sirimon Route
A green route up to the peaks that is little known to Mt. Kenya trekkers. This is the one route we take great pride in, having put it back to use ourselves after more than 30 years of disuse and neglect. The route was pioneered during colonial days and then abandoned for many years until it was re-opened by our guides in the early 90’s. It provides a unique and completely natural mountain trekking experience.
